The MU Student Activity Fee, a required payment for all students, has increased by 52 percent in the past five years. In fall 2012, it will cost $164.88 per semester for undergraduates.
Some citizens are concerned that 12-year-old demographic data might paint an inaccurate portrait of Columbia and Boone County. The city’s population has grown about 30 percent from 2000 to 2010.

The Columbia Community Development Corp. is a consortium of seven local banks that buy vacant or dilapidated properties in Columbia’s older neighborhoods and build new houses on the lots. During spring break this year, 21 residential burglaries were reported, according to the Columbia Police Department. Results do not differentiate between student and non-student residential incidents.
